St. Joseph’s Health Welcomes Dr. Kyle Plante to Primary Care Cicero
St. Joseph’s Health is pleased to welcome Kyle Plante, MD, to St. Joseph’s Physicians Primary Care in Cicero.
Dr. Plante, board-certified in family medicine, received his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pennsylvania, where he was a four-time Men’s Lacrosse Scholar Athlete and a member of the Beta-Beta-Beta National Biological Honor Society.
Spending most of his educational years in Syracuse, he earned a Master of Science (MS) in Cell & Developmental Biology as well as his Master of Public Health (MPH) with a Certificate of Advanced Study (CAS) in Health Services Management & Policy through a joint program with SUNY Upstate and Syracuse University. He then went on to Upstate’s College of Medicine to obtain his medical degree.
Before joining St. Joseph’s, Dr. Plante completed his residency training in family medicine with McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University, where he also served as administrative chief resident. Returning to New York, he completed his fellowship training in primary care sports medicine with the University at Buffalo and UBMD Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine.
“Spending many years as a high school and college athlete myself, I understand the importance of whole person health, working toward injury and illness prevention as well as treatments to help all patients get back to doing what they love, sooner.” said Dr. Plante. “I’m looking forward to incorporating these principles into my practice at St. Joseph’s Primary Care to help every patient remain strong and healthy with some type of physical activity within their capabilities.”
Dr. Plante’s sports medicine training has yielded him experience with professional hockey and baseball teams, including the Buffalo Sabres, Rochester Americans, and the Kane County Cougars (the MLB affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks). He has also worked with various college programs, including SUNY Buffalo, Niagara University, Northern Illinois University, & Daemen University, as well as various high school teams. Currently, he serves as one of the team doctors for Syracuse University, providing sideline coverage for football, field hockey and women’s basketball, along with training room coverage for all SU athletes.
Dr. Plante has several published case studies and has done many conference presentations. He is an active member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine (AMSSM) and the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). He has published several peer-reviewed research articles and case reports in the fields of sports medicine and general primary care.
Dr. Plante is a resident of Central New York, along with his wife and two young kids. He enjoys spending time with his family, attending SU sporting events, and various outdoor activities such as golfing and skiing.
