Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists (SOS) is pleased to announce it has recently hired David DiStefano, MD, to its Joint Replacement and Sports Medicine teams. Dr. DiStefano is a fellowship trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in shoulder and elbow surgery. He is extensively trained in both arthroscopic and open repair and reconstruction of the shoulder and elbow, including fracture care, tendon and ligament repair and reconstruction, as well as arthroplasty.

Prior to joining SOS, DiStefano trained with the University of Colorado and Steadman Hawkins Sports Medicine Clinic, working with physicians who cared for professional and collegiate athletes in Denver. He also trained with the prestigious Sydney Shoulder Research Institute in Sydney, Australia, and has already published papers in multiple peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, and has presented his research at multiple national and international conferences. He completed his residency at the University of Rochester Medical Center, where he was Academic Chief Resident his final year. He earned his medical degree from SUNY Upstate Medical University, and his bachelor’s degree with Magna Cum Laude honors from St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY.
